The HEAT Loan in Plain Terms

Under the Mass Save HEAT Loan, a homeowner can finance up to $25,000 at 0% interest for heat pumps, weatherization and heat pump water heaters, with the money coming from participating banks and credit unions. The program has a few firm steps. First, a Mass Save utility account has to be attached to the house. A contractor writes a proposal for the work. An authorization form is completed and taken to a participating lender, who makes its own approval decision. After the work is finished, an inspection confirms it was done as proposed. In Wakefield the first step needs care, because the town light department supplies electricity and also much of the gas, and neither is a Mass Save utility. That means the HEAT Loan is not automatic here. It may still be possible for a home whose gas is billed by National Grid or Eversource. Your bills tell us where you stand, before anyone spends time on paperwork. If the loan fits, we prepare a proposal that clearly lists the equipment, the price and the amount to be financed, fill in the authorization form with you and explain what the lender will ask for. We never promise approval or quote payment terms, because the lender sets those. What you can count on is a clear explanation of every step ahead of time.

What Financing Help Covers

When financing is part of the plan, this is our share of the work.

  • Eligibility check

Your utility accounts reviewed first, since the loan depends on a Mass Save account.

  • Written proposal

Equipment, scope and price set out in the format lenders expect to see.

  • Authorization form

Completed side by side with you, each line explained before your pen touches it.

  • Lender guidance

An overview of how participating banks and credit unions handle the application and what to bring.

  • Combined projects

When weatherization belongs in the plan too, how it can sit in the same financing.

  • Inspection prep

The finished work documented so the post-install inspection has what it needs.

From Question to Funded Project

  1. Confirm the account

We look at who supplies your gas and electricity. If there is no Mass Save account, we say so plainly and talk about other ways to plan the cost.

  2. Proposal and form

With eligibility settled, you get a proposal on paper, and the two of us work through the authorization form for you to bring to a participating lender.

  3. Build it, then inspect it

With the lender's approval in hand, we book the install. When the work wraps up, the inspection gets arranged and the remaining loan documents are completed.
